Many LFS families have struggled to get treatments for loved ones because all of the ‘standard’ treatments have failed. Too often the response from oncologists is that there is nothing more to be done, even when there is evidence that new treatments might provide some benefit. Not necessarily expensive new drugs, but even cheap drugs like metformin, low dose cyclophosphamide, celecoxib can help, but often there’s a reluctance to step outside the existing protocols.
There is currently a Medical Innovation Bill going through Parliament to make it easier for doctors to try innovative new treatments. And there’s a public consultation going on at the moment, with a web site to collect public comments:
